Ghana’s political parties

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the release of the provisional voter register to political parties ahead of the voter register exhibition, which will run from August 20 to August 27, 2024.

This decision follows significant pressure from political parties and stakeholders urging the EC to provide access to the provisional register.

During a press conference at the EC headquarters on Monday, Deputy Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare clarified that the commission operates within its mandated schedule for delivering the provisional register to political parties.

Dr Asare addressed recent media reports suggesting delays in releasing the provisional register.

“We want to clarify that, according to Regulation 22 of CI 31, as amended by CI 126, the commission is required to provide the provisional voter register to political parties no later than three months after the registration period concludes,” he explained.

He noted that the limited registration period ended on May 29, 2024, and the mop-up registration concluded on August 3, 2023. “Based on these timelines, the commission has until August 2024 to deliver the provisional register.

We can confirm that the external drives containing the provisional register are now available for pickup. The NDC has already collected its external drive, and other parties have retrieved theirs,” Dr Asare added.

The voter register exhibition will officially begin on Tuesday, August 20, and will run through August 27, 2024, as scheduled.
