The Ghana Football Association has dismissed growing media discussions in England over reports that English players may refuse to shake hands with Thomas Partey ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup clash.

According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the narrative being circulated in parts of the English media is an attempt to destabilize the Black Stars camp ahead of the high-profile Group L encounter.

“The English media are using this as mind games to destabilise the team, but we trust and support our player and we remain focused,” he stated.

The comments come amid reports suggesting that England’s Football Association could review traditional pre-match handshakes involving the Ghana midfielder, who is due to stand trial in the United Kingdom over allegations he has denied.

The issue has generated widespread debate in the build-up to the June 23 World Cup meeting between Ghana and England at Gillette Stadium.

Despite the off-field distractions, Ghana insist their focus remains firmly on football matters as they continue preparations for the tournament opener against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England and Croatia in Group L.
