The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have constituted a five-member Search Committee to lead the recruitment of a new head coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars.The decision was reached following a meeting between the leadership of the GFA and the Ministry on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Accra.The committee will be chaired by former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe, who will lead the process of identifying and assessing candidates for the vacant Black Stars coaching position.Pappoe will be supported by four other members with backgrounds in football administration, playing, law and high-performance management.They are Anthony Baffoe, General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and former Ghana international; Agbesi Dzakpasu, a legal practitioner and football administrator; Stephen Appiah, former Black Stars captain; and Faisal Chibsah, a high-performance specialist.According to the terms of reference, the committee has been tasked with identifying, evaluating and recommending a suitable candidate for the vacant Black Stars coaching role.The committee will submit its report to the Ghana Football Association after completing its work.The Black Stars coaching position became vacant on Thursday, October 1, following the resignation of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz after the September international window.Queiroz and the GFA had mutually agreed to terminate their working relationship after Ghana suffered defeats to Cote dIvoire and The Gambia in the opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.The formation of the committee marks the beginning of the process to find Queirozs successor, with the GFA and the Sports Ministry assuring Ghanaians that the recruitment will be transparent and merit-based.The new coach will inherit a Black Stars side that has no points from its opening two AFCON qualifying matches and faces a crucial double-header against Somalia in November.
