A civil lawsuit over the death of Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, has been settled, bringing an end to a legal dispute that followed a fatal hit-and-run incident five years ago.
Court documents obtained by US media confirm that Carol Maraj, the rapper’s mother, reached an agreement in early March with Charles Polevich, the driver convicted in connection with the 2021 incident.
Polevich had previously served a prison sentence after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of the collision and tampering with evidence. He struck 65-year-old Robert Maraj in February 2021 as he crossed a road in Long Island, New York, before fleeing the scene. He was later tracked down by investigators using surveillance footage.
The settlement resolved the wrongful death claim filed by Carol Maraj, who had sought damages over the loss of her husband’s companionship and support.

The case had drawn additional attention after Polevich attempted to subpoena Nicki Minaj for a deposition, reportedly seeking to question her about lyrics referencing her childhood in an effort to challenge claims about the family’s relationship. That move was ultimately dropped and did not proceed.
With the agreement now reached, the long-running civil proceedings between the parties have been concluded.
