The host of GBC Sunrise FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Mohammed Zunurene, has been adjudged the 2024 Morning Show Host of the Year in the Eastern Region, at the 13th Edition of the ASGAB- Foklex Media Awards held at the National Theatre in Accra on Saturday.
Mr. Zunurene, who doubles as the host of the Future Leaders program on Sunrise FM was among 77 outstanding media personalities who were recognized for their unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to the industry.
The Morning Show Host of the Year category in which he emerged winner also featured seven other astute media personalities from the Region.
Over the years, Mr Zunurene has contributed immensely to societal development in many sectors through his widely listened to Morning Show and other programs he has hosted previously such as Events in Focus, where he puts duty bearers and the citizenry on their toes through his compelling presentations and brilliant questions.
In the course of his work, some of the prominent personalities he has interviewed includes President Akufo-Addo, former President John Dramani Mahama and Representatives of foreign missions, ministers of state among others. His determination, fearlessness, drive, fairness and penchant for speaking truth to power has earned him the admiration of many. Aside his normal duties, he carries out media support and other voluntary services for many civil society groups as well.
Although he is passionate about helping to ameliorate all the pressing developmental challenges confronting the Eastern Region and Ghana as a whole, areas such as Environmental Sustainability, Education, Health, Child Protection, Human Rights and the Welfare of PWDs are of particular interest to him.
Mr. Zunurene is a fellow of the United States’ IVLP’s Edward Murrow Fellowship, TechCamp on Illegal Mining, and the BMZ African-German Leadership Academy. He won the Media Personality of the Year award for ‘Zone A’ in the 2022 edition of the Eastern Region Media Excellence Awards (ERMEA). He was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Broadcast Reporting at the University of Ghana in 2014 and has previously gained several award nominations
He holds an Advanced Professional Training Certificate from the BMZ African- German Leadership Academy, German Institute of Development and Sustainability, IDOS, Bonn, a Master’s Degree in Communications Studies from the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, and a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Foundations (Economics and Geography) from the University of Cape Coast. He holds certificates in Radio and TV Production/Broadcasting Techniques from the GBC’s Radio and TV Training School, among others.
He is an honest, intelligent, versatile, hardworking, open minded and affable person who enjoys reading, writing, music, photography, Research, swimming, traveling and sightseeing.
