The Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated moves to fish out unqualified Junior High School (JHS) form one and two students who jumped class to write the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The GES has subsequently informed all regional and district directors of education to furnish the service with the names of attendance and absentee JHS 1 and JHS 2 students especially during the 2023 BECE week from Monday, August 7th to Friday, August 11th, 2023.
The GES has directed that all school heads in both public and private schools should be made to provide the names of JHS one and two students.
Information gathered by Graphic Online also indicates that the GES in addition wants the list of attendance of all JHS 2 students in the 2021/2022 academic school year. That is, the GES wants to track the 2021/2022 academic year attendance of students who wrote the 2023 BECE in August.
Following this, some education watchers have told Graphic Online that the GES want to fish out unqualified form one and two students who “jumped” the academic and wrote the 2023 BECE and subsequently disqualify them from entering senior high school form one.
The 2023 BECE results are expected to be released within the last week of October 2023 and first week of November 2023.
SHS one students are expected to be in school around the first week of December 2023.
Graphic Online has gathered that the GES has written to all regional directors of Education on the issue and that in a notice to all regional directors of education last week, the GES requested for a list of JHS 2 students in the 2021/2022 academic year in both public and private schools who wrote the 2023 BECE.
The heads of public junior high schools have been directed to submit their 2021/2022 academic year JHS 2 class attendance registers to their respective Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to compile and submit the names of students to the Director-General through their respective Regional Directors of Education by close of work on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
They are to ensure that the data is submitted within the stipulated deadline and must undertake the important exercise without delay.
Addition
In addition to that, the heads are to submit absentee names for JHS students in form 1 and 2 in both public and private schools, who were specifically absent for the 2021/2022 academic, specifically those absent from August 7th to 11th in 2023.
Heads of Junior High Schools are directed to submit the names of JHS 1 and JHS 2 students who were absent during the specified period, accompanied by their class attendance registers for verification, to their respective Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education.
Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education are tasked with compiling and submitting the names of these absentees to the Director-General through their respective Regional Directors of Education.
