Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has strongly denied rumours that he did not like former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
According to Okraku, his main priority is the success of the team, and he does not have personal preferences when it comes to coaches.
“I don’t hate anyone! I want to be successful. I demand performance from coaches, I want to see a team perform well and win games. This is what I demand from every coach that works for us!” Okraku emphasised this at a press conference in Kumasi.
Hughton was recently sacked after Ghana’s disappointing performance at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
The team failed to win any matches and was eliminated from the competition.
Under Hughton’s leadership, Ghana’s record was less than impressive, with four wins, four draws, and five losses.
His win-loss-draw ratio stood at 30.77%, 30.77%, and 38.46%, respectively. The team scored 13 goals and conceded 16 times.
Following Hughton’s departure, the GFA has begun searching for a new coach, with reports suggesting that over 600 coaches have applied for the job.
Okraku’s denial of personal animosity towards Hughton suggests that the decision to part ways with the coach was based solely on the team’s poor performance.
The GFA President appears to be focused on finding a suitable replacement who can lead the team to success.
