The Government of Ghana has received the first batch of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from following recent xenophobic attacks in the country.

The evacuees arrived on May 27, 2026, and were received by Chief of Staff , Minister for Foreign Affairs , Deputy and other senior government officials.

Welcoming the returnees on behalf of President , Mr Debrah said the government remained committed to protecting Ghanaian nationals and considered the evacuation necessary to ensure their safety amid the challenging circumstances in South .

He also assured the evacuees of government support to facilitate their reintegration.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare, dignity and safety of Ghanaians wherever they may be.

He commended institutions, including the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the National Disaster Management Organisation (), for their roles in the evacuation exercise.

According to the Minister, each evacuee will receive psychosocial and medical support, as well as a reintegration allowance, to help them rebuild their lives.

The evacuees expressed appreciation to the government for the assistance, intervention and reception accorded them upon their arrival.
