Ghana winger Osman Bukari has been granted Serbian citizenship by the government, a development that will have implications for his football career.
The decision means that Bukari will receive a Serbian passport upon his return from pre-season training in Russia.
It’s important to note that Bukari’s acquisition of Serbian citizenship does not imply a switch in national team allegiance. He will continue to represent Ghana at the international level. However, the granting of Serbian citizenship will have benefits for his club career.
At his current club, Red Star Belgrade, Bukari will no longer be considered a foreigner. This designation allows him to bypass certain limitations on the number of foreign players in the squad. It is a positive development for the talented winger, as he can now fully contribute to the team without any restrictions.
Bukari joined Red Star Belgrade at the beginning of last season from Belgian side Gent. In his debut campaign, he played a key role in the club’s success, helping them secure a domestic double. He showcased his scoring prowess by finding the back of the net 15 times in 38 appearances for the club.
The winger’s impressive performances also caught the attention of football fans during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored a goal against Portugal.
