Gideon MensahGhana defender Gideon Mensah has opened up on his decision to join German club FC Koln.The 27-year-old, who turns 28 in seven days time, signed a two-year deal to join the Bundesliga side in the summer transfer window.The moves brings an end to an impressive career in the French league with AJ Auxerre, where he made over 100 appearances, including 98 Ligue 1 games.According to the Black Stars left-back, the decision to move to the Bundesliga felt best and right one following his meeting with the officials of Koln.”After the World Cup, I had several options. But in the discussions with the FC officials, who went to great lengths to sign me, I had the best feeling from the start. Added to that is the sporting prospects the club outlined for me,” he said after signing the deal.

“And of course, I’ve already heard a lot about the city and the extraordinary support of the FC fans, which I’m really looking forward to. Just like I did for Ghana and my previous clubs, I will give my all for FC so that the club achieves its goals and we are successful as a team, he added.

Mensah was reportedly on the radar of several clubs including German side Schalke O4.The WAFA graduate is expected to cut short his vacation and join the team for pre-season in the coming days.
