Government plans to build two stadiums with a capacity of 15,000 seats each in the Eastern and Bono regions this year.
This is captured in the Ministry of Youth and Sports 2023 budget brief to parliament according to Onua Sports.
While a number of recently planned stadiums, as well as repairs of existing ones like the Essipong stadium, have yet to be finished, the ministry has chosen to build new ones in the two regions to stimulate sports development with a portion of this year’s budget allocation.
They have also planned to complete the ten youth resource centres across the country this year with some of the money allocated to the ministry for their work this year.
The ministry also plans to finish the Abiriw stadium, for which sod was cut in 2019, as well as the Edubiase stadium.
In the budget, the ministry also proposed the construction of Astro turfs in some constituencies and organize a national sports congress among others before the end of the year.
The ministry will operate with a budget of GHC 395,723,261 for the year.
