The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reiterated calls for business operators to embrace the E-VAT system to help government rake in more revenue as part of efforts to address the economic challenges that confronts the country.

The Authority explains that the piloting stages of the E-VAT system has been successful thus the need to onboard all companies operating in the business space.

Speaking on the sidelines a Business engagement with CEOs of businesses to get them acquainted with the E-VAT system, the Commissioner of Domestic Tax at GRA, Edward Appenteng Gyamerah said the authority is starting with about 600 companies and gradually roll on all other companies.

“The E-invoicing is what we all need to support which can solve the VAT under declaration for us.  The first pilot has been extremely successfully and we believe that is the good way to go and we need everyone to support this course for us to raise the needed revenue for the development of the state,” he said.

Meanwhile the Ghana Revenue Authority has indicated that it will not compromise on the secrecy of tax payers’ information as it is positioned to implement the E- VAT system on a full scale after a successful completion of the pilot stage.

The Authority maintains that it has placed in measures to curtail challenges which will limit the success of the e- invoicing. The Authority assured businesses of strict adherence to its secrecy guidelines.

“Tax payer information has always been kept secret by GRA. The Provisions in the tax laws prevents any officer from disclosing any information except by a court order. Therefore we will be guided by the same provision,” he  reiterated.
