Hearts coach laments poor officiating after derby defeat to Olympics

Hearts of Oak head coach, Slavko Matic was unhappy with the majority of the decisions by referee Julian Nunoo during their defeat to Great Olympics in the Ga Mashie derby.

The Oly Dade boys extended their unbeaten run against the Phobians to six games with a slim victory at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to a spot kick converted by Samuel Ashie-Quaye in the 52nd minute.

However, the Serbian coach believes his tactical approach was spot on, but the referee made things difficult for Hearts of Oak.

Even though Olympics finished the game with one man less, Matic blamed Nunoo for their defeat.

“We wanted to play differently but that is football. It is not good to start talking [complaining] about referees. Maybe about 20 fouls or so in the first half as though we played basketball today. We could not play, especially in the first half.”

“We wanted to play to make high press but every contact was foul. We could not play. Players started to be nervous. We have a lot of problems because this is not the first time we are getting a referee like this. And he just had to give one red card to cover himself. It doesn’t work like that,” said Matic after the defeat.

While Olympics are 11th on the table, Hearts of Oak have descended to sixth place, eight points behind league leaders Aduana Stars, who have 36 points.
