Legendary Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kwadwo Akwaboah, widely known as ‘Akwaboah Senior’, has sadly passed away.
The news of his demise was announced by his son, Akwaboah Jnr, via a heartfelt post on social media today, May 16.
The music industry and fans alike are pouring in their condolences for the loss of the music icon.
Taking to Twitter, Akwaboah Jnr shared a poignant picture of his late father, accompanied by the words, “RIP Daddy.”
Kwadwo Akwaboah gained immense fame for his timeless hit, “Awerekyekyere.”
Recently, he collaborated with his son, Akwaboah Jnr, to recreate this beloved song. The captivating studio performance accompanying the remake garnered significant attention and received extensive airplay across various media platforms.
Despite facing the challenges of glaucoma, which ultimately resulted in the loss of his eyesight, Kwadwo Akwaboah remained resilient and continued to play musical instruments.
Several videos circulating on social media showcased his remarkable talent, even under such difficult circumstances.
In an interview, the late musician shed light on his condition, revealing a strange turn of events that led to his visual impairment. “One day, after performing with a band, I woke up to find a blood spot on my right eye. I sought medical attention, and although I was prescribed eye drops, they proved ineffective,” he disclosed during a conversation with TV XYZ.
