Hughton urged to scout players beyond Ghana Premier League

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Isaac Amoako has urged Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, to expand his player scouting beyond the Ghana Premier League.

Hughton has primarily focused on scouting local players since his appointment in February and has attended numerous top-flight matches.

While Amoako commends Hughton’s commitment to the premiership, he believes there are other hidden talents in the lower leagues that should not be overlooked.

“His commitment to watching the local league will help motivate the players, but I will plead with him to watch the lower division leagues too,” Amoako said.

“Hughton has got two assistant coaches, so it will be prudent for him to share tasks, so they can monitor players in the Division One and other lower leagues as well.”

Ghana is set to return to action in June as they honour their fifth match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. With this in mind, Amoako’s advice could prove invaluable to Hughton and his team as they look to assemble the strongest possible squad for the upcoming matches.
