Ghanaian media personality MzGee has explained why some people perceive her as disrespectful, pompous and unfriendly.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, MzGee said many of these perceptions stem from how seriously she takes her work and how direct she is when handling professional matters.

Responding to claims that she is pompous, MzGee questioned the basis of such labels and defended her personality and work ethic.

“What do I have that will make me pompous in the first place? For me I really like my job or like to work. Go and check those who usually say that. They are people I have worked with who try to mess up my work and I warned them that I don’t play with my job.

“So some of these people may be people I have worked with that they tried to do one or two things and I told them I don’t work like that, so they now term you as disrespectful,” she said.

The award-winning presenter further explained that the media and showbiz industry is largely male-dominated, adding that some men in the space do not take kindly to being corrected or challenged by women on professional issues. This, she noted, often leads to women being labelled disrespectful or difficult when they are simply being firm and professional.

MzGee added that people who have worked with her may find her difficult because she refuses to overlook actions that could compromise her work. In her view, she prefers addressing issues directly to ensure professionalism and smooth collaboration.

She also spoke about why some people may describe her as unfriendly, explaining that she dislikes pretence and fake relationships. She noted that when she is aware someone does not like her, she sees no reason to act friendly toward them in public.

Because of that, she admitted that she sometimes ignores such individuals when she meets them in public spaces, adding that she does not believe in smiling with people who speak negatively about her behind her back.

MzGee further noted that she is very good at doing “Aka,” a Ghanaian term used to describe people who are no longer on speaking terms, but said she is currently working on improving that aspect of herself.

She stressed that she has never intentionally hurt a colleague or engaged in gossip about people she has worked with. According to her, she prefers addressing issues directly with the individuals involved and, where necessary, moving on.

The screen goddess revealed that there are several people she has worked with whom she no longer speaks to and is not ashamed to admit it.

“So yeah I really like doing ‘Aka’ forgive me but I am now working on myself when it comes to that. Because I don’t see the need of smiling with you in public when I know for sure that as soon as you leave, you are going to say awful things about me. So yeah there are people I have worked with that I no longer talk to,” she said.
