Ghanaian Musician Fancy Gadam has detailed an interesting experience in his music career during his 2017 Tamale concert which made him recognise his worth as an artiste.
The ‘total cheat’ hitmaker in an interview with Majority Radio in Tamale, disclosed that he paid rapper Sarkodie an amount of GH¢120,000 after he appeared as a guest artiste on his Tamale concert in 2017.
According to Fancy Gadam, this served as a wake-up call for him to realise his value as an artiste.
“My show with Sarkodie at Tamale Sports Stadium, myself and my management we paid him GH¢120,000. From that particular day I realised my value. I never knew it,” he said.
This experience, he said caused him to re-evaluate himself as an artiste and decided not to charge any amount less than GH¢10,000 for a concert.
“From then I said to my team whenever anybody needs us to perform for a concert, we won’t take anything less than GH¢10,000 and that has been my charge from 2017 till date,” he added.
The musician in the same interview explained why he backed out from the list of artiste billed to perform at Sister Afia‘s concert at Tamale in 2022.
It could be recalled that there was a low turnout at the concert held on May 14, 2022 after Fancy Gadam withdrew from the list of artistes.
Following the unfortunate incident, Sister Afia strongly expressed her reservations and disappointment in Fancy Gadam for backing out a week to the event.
“the attendance was poor and I felt I was sabotaged. He was very close to me I know him personally so I was obviously affected by what he did. The amount he charged me, his fellow artiste, is outrageous, but my team was ready to pay immediately, but he just decided not to come,” she lamented.
However, Fancy Gadam argued that he withdrew from the concert because there was not enough time scheduled for the event.
He explained further that he suggested for more time for both managements to promote the event but Sister Afia and her management disagreed.
“Sista Afia didn’t approach us. Someone called and said he wanted to do a show with me and her. We charged GH¢100,000. Then she called herself, wanting me to help her, so I took GH¢50,000 per artiste-to-artiste agreement, meaning half of the initial fee.
“We needed time to promote the show. Timing was the main issue and it was Ramada. We are all Muslims and fasting so they will not want to attend. I didn’t want to dent my reputation. The timing was the main thing,” Fancy Gadam clarified.
