Winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2021, Sarfoa Asamoah, has opened up about the discouraging comments she received before auditioning for the popular beauty pageant.
During a conversation on The Queen’s Lounge on TV3, the beauty queen-turned-broadcaster revealed that she sought advice from close relatives, mentors, and other trusted people before deciding to participate in the competition.
According to her, while some people encouraged her, others strongly advised against it, warning that beauty pageants could have a negative impact on her life.
“Personally, before I went to GMB, I spoke to some close people aside relatives, mentors I would say, and there were some of them who told me point blank that, ‘I know what beauty pageant can make people. You will look miserable.’ It scared me at a point because I had not only heard stories but I had read to some extent how some pageantry has turned some people to be,” she said.
Sarfoa admitted that those remarks left her frightened, especially because she had also come across stories about people whose lives had reportedly been negatively affected after participating in beauty pageants. However, she said she took time to research Ghana’s Most Beautiful and realised that the pageant was different from the perceptions many people held.

Confident in her decision, she proceeded with the audition and eventually emerged as the winner of the 2021 edition of the competition. Looking back, Sarfoa said she is happy she proved the doubters wrong and has gone on to build a successful career after the pageant.
The beauty queen added that the same person who once warned her that joining Ghana’s Most Beautiful would make her “miserable” is now one of her biggest admirers. According to her, the individual now proudly introduces her to friends and expresses how proud they are of the woman she has become, a complete turnaround from the fears and doubts they once had about her decision to join the pageant.
