Ghana Black Stars Head Coach Chris Hughton has expressed strong disappointment with the performance against Cape Verde on Sunday. The Black Stars suffered a shocking 1-2 defeat in their opening game in the ongoing AFCON tournament in Abidjan.

Jamiro Monteiro scored the first goal before defender Alexander Djiku equalised in the 55th minute to breathe some hope into the Ghanaian team. However, Garry Rodriguez put the nail in the coffin by scoring at the death of full-time to restore their lead, which condemned the Black Stars to their first defeat in the tournament.

During the post-game presser, the former Brighton gaffer admitted the team was not at its best against the Blue Sharks.

“We are incredibly disappointed with the result. We came into the game with a plan. We changed the system a bit so we can start on the front foot. We are hugely disappointed with the results. It’s a defeat, and we are hugely disappointed.”

Ghana is currently stuck at the bottom of Group B with no points, while Cape Verde enjoys the kingly ride on top, with Egypt and Mozambique occupying 3rd and 4th place, respectively.
