I’m Gradually Adjusting To My Celebrity Status – Says Cook-A-thon’s Chef Faila | General Entertainment

The Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has said she is gradually adjusting to her new celebrity status after her cookathon attempt.

On Wednesday 10 January Faila officially ended her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking session by an individual, in a culinary feat that has captured the attention of the nation.

After clocking a time of just over 227 hours, she has unofficially claimed the title of longest cooking marathon (individual).

The current record of 119 hours and 57 minutes was achieved by the Irish chef Alan Fisher, who set the record in Japan in November 2023. 

Faila’s marathon took place at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, where spectators and supporters gathered to witness her remarkable feat.
 
The original plan was for her to cook from 1 to 5 January but she had to extend her attempt to ten days because of a similar attempt last month by the Ugandan chef Mama D (Dorcus Mirembe), which lasted 144 hours.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (19 January), Faila urged the media to project positive news about Ghana, and said that nothing can intimidate her into abandoning what she wants to achieve.
 
She said, “I will tell you that experience is everything. I have never lived that life before, and I need to adjust. I am just ordinary like anyone else, so if I make a mistake, I am not expecting someone to vilify me for it.”

Faila said, “Should I have pretended to jump like I was already a celebrity to have known certain things? No, I have to adjust to that lifestyle, and it takes a gradual process.

“Unfortunately, we have a certain category of people, the moment you are in the limelight, they come out with all forms of negativity and vilify you and forget all the good things you have done. But unfortunately I am not someone you can bully,” Faila said.
