The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has issued a formal retraction and apology to his opponent, Lydia Alhassan, the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate.

Dumelo’s apology follows condemnation from the Widows Association in Ayawaso West Wuogon, which criticized him for making “egregious and unsubstantiated” allegations against Lydia Alhassan.

During a recent media encounter, Dumelo had suggested that Lydia Alhassan was responsible for the death of her late husband, who was the MP for the constituency until his passing.

In a Facebook post, John Dumelo said, “I apologize and unreservedly retract my previous comments. I extend my sincere and unconditional apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for my remarks during the Media General public engagement (Community Manifesto) concerning the death of her husband.”

He stated that those comments do not align with his values or what he stands for, explaining that his remarks were made in response to personal attacks by supporters of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.

“My comments were in response to personal attacks by supporters of the honourable minister, including false allegations regarding my mother’s death. However, I recognize that my reaction was inappropriate.”

He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the development and progress of the constituency, ensuring that he will work tirelessly to deliver positive change and improvement to the community.
