In a surprise move, Iconic Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie has finally released a song on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, addressing the recent controversy surrounding his relationship with Yvonne Nelson.
The popular actress made accusations in her memoir, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” which was released on June 18, 2023 that the rapper forced her to abort their child.
According to Yvonne Nelson, when she broke the news to Sarkodie that she was pregnant she could hear his heart pounding, and when he finally found his voice, he faltered.
His message was, however, unambiguous. He didn’t want the pregnancy. That would damage him and his career. The only option was to get rid of it.
The revelation came as a surprise to many, as there had been no previous indication that the two had been in an intimate relationship.
But in the 3 minutes/16 seconds song dubbed “Try Me,” — performed in Akan Twi, English, and Pidgin, Sarkodie addressed several of the allegations made by the celebrated actress in the book.
He denies being the one who pushed her to have an abortion, and he claims that she was the one who was promiscuous.
According to him,when Yvonne mentioned the pregnancy, he thought she was only “trying to start another drama but he told her to keep it even though he wasn’t ready.
He explained extensively that it was rather Yvonne’s idea to have the baby aborted because she was in school.
The lyric video for the song shows a woman astronaut falling from space. This is thought to be a reference to Nelson’s career, which has been on a downward trajectory since she released her book.
The release of “Try Me” is a clear sign that Sarkodie is not happy with Nelson’s book. He has said that he initially wanted to take the matter “to my grave,” but he decided to speak out after he felt that Nelson was misrepresenting the truth.
It remains to be seen how Nelson will respond to “Try Me.” However, it is clear that this is a feud that is not going to end anytime soon.
