Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi will miss his country’s upcoming FIFA Club World Cup group-stage clash against Germany in Canada, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed.
The announcement comes amid reports linking the player to an investigation in France over suspected sports corruption following unusual betting activity surrounding a yellow card he received during a Ligue 1 match for Nice last month. French authorities are currently examining the matter.
Despite the reports, the FIF stated that it has not received any official notification regarding legal or administrative proceedings involving Wahi. The federation also expressed its full support for the striker, describing him as an important member of the national team and reaffirming its confidence in him.
According to the FIF, Wahi’s absence is due to outstanding administrative authorisations required for entry into Canada. He will remain in the United States while the team travels to Toronto for Saturday’s Group E encounter against Germany. Ivory Coast opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Ecuador, while Germany head into the match following a dominant 7-1 win over Curaca
