Lawyers representing Joana Quaye have formally petitioned the Ghana Police Service, questioning delays in the investigation of complaints she filed against her former husband, Richard Nii Armah Quaye.
In a letter dated April 14, 2026, the legal team referenced an earlier complaint lodged on December 9, 2025, in which their client alleged she had endured years of abuse during the marriage.
“We act for Ms. Joana Quaye, until 20th January, 2026, the wife of Richard Nii Armah Quaye. Our client is also the mother of three children of the marriage,” portions of the letter stated.
According to the lawyers, Joana Quaye was compelled to seek police intervention after what they described as a prolonged period of mistreatment spanning over a decade.

“Our instructions are that in reaction to persistent abuse and violence she suffered at the hands of Mr. Richard Quaye… she was compelled to lodge a formal complaint,” the statement added.
The allegations reportedly include claims of physical and emotional abuse, coercion, and a specific incident in which the businessman allegedly attempted to force his way through a bedroom door at their Dansoman residence.
The legal team noted that the allegations had already been formally documented and presented both to the police and during divorce proceedings.
They have now called on authorities to expedite investigations and ensure the matter is handled promptly.
The case is currently being handled by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the police service.
Copies of the petition have also been forwarded to the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, signalling the seriousness of the matter.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has not publicly responded to the petition. The development adds another layer to the ongoing legal and public scrutiny surrounding the former couple’s high-profile divorce.
