Ghana’s star striker, Jordan Ayew, reached a significant milestone in his international career as he scored his 20th goal for the Black Stars in a thrilling 3-1 victory over Liberia during an international friendly at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Jordan Ayew’s goal came in the 82nd minute of the match, shortly after he came off the bench to replace Ernest Nuamah, who had already found the net in the 52nd minute. This marked Jordan Ayew’s 20th goal for the national team, a feat that brings him just four goals shy of equaling the total Black Stars goals of his brother, Andre Ayew.
The match was a showcase of Ghana’s attacking prowess, with Mohammed Kudus also adding to the scoreline with a goal seven minutes after Nuamah’s opener.
Not only did Jordan Ayew make a significant contribution on the scoresheet, but he also achieved another feat by making his 92nd appearance for the national team.
This catapulted him past John Paintsil’s record of 91 appearances, making Jordan Ayew the fourth player with the most caps for Ghana only behind captain Andre Ayew who has also made his 115th in the match, Asamoah Gyan who retired with 109 appearances and Richard Kingson with 93 caps.
Jordan Ayew is aiming to add to his numbers in a Black Stars shirt in the future as the team continues preparations for forthcoming competitive fixtures including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which commences in November as well as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which is slated to take place in Ivory Coast next year.
