Kafui Danku is spearheading a major new chapter for Ghana’s movie industry following the official launch of the National Film Authority’s (NFA) Film Development Fund.
The initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, May 20, at Silverbird Cinemas Accra Mall, is expected to provide much-needed financial support for filmmakers and creative entrepreneurs across the country.
The launch event also featured the inauguration of the Film Development Fund Management Committee and the Film Classification Committee, two bodies expected to oversee the administration, regulation and growth of the industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kafui Danku who is Chief Executive Officer of NFA, described the fund as a significant intervention aimed at solving one of the film sector’s biggest hurdles — access to financing.

“The establishment of the Film Development Fund is one of the most significant institutional interventions towards addressing a long-standing challenge within the industry, particularly in the area of financing and investment support,” she said.
According to her, the fund will create opportunities for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors and content creators to build sustainable businesses while increasing the global reach of Ghanaian films.
“The Fund is therefore intended to create opportunities for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, content creators, and industry entrepreneurs to grow more sustainable businesses, create jobs, expand audiences, and increase the global visibility of Ghanaian stories and content,” she added.
Kafui Danku further stressed the importance of accountability and proper regulation within the industry, noting that the newly inaugurated committees would play a key role in ensuring transparency and governance.
The Film Development Fund Management Committee will supervise the administration and strategic direction of the fund, while the Film Classification Committee will oversee content classification and uphold industry standards.
The launch marks one of the NFA’s most ambitious efforts yet to strengthen Ghana’s film ecosystem, with expectations that the initiative will boost production, create jobs and elevate Ghanaian cinema on the international stage.
