Former Karela United head coach, Bismark Kobby Mensah penned down a short term contract with Ghana Premier League side, Accra Great Olympics after exiting Karela United.
The former Bechem United gaffer before leaving Karela United was not seen much on the bench for the Ayinase based side in his second spell due to his role in Ghana’s CHAN team as the second assistant to Annor Walker.
Kobby Mensah revealed in an interview on Connect 97.1 FM that he had to exit Karela because of the poor welfare of the players.
“The welfare of players at Karela United was bad, the technical team complained about it on several occasions but nothing was done about it. It affected my job as the head coach and I had to quit.
“Almost all the players at Karela United are outsiders and how to get to training was even a challenge because they had to pay for TnT which was difficult for them”, Kobby said.
All were not rousy at Karela United as the players had to play with empty stomach and all these made the job difficult for Bismark Kobby Mensah who had to make a decision finally.
“It is so pathetic for a player to tell me to take him out of a game because he is hungry and it was the reality. We are like fathers to the players”.
The young coach went ahead to say that his move to Great Olympics was not planned because he wanted to stay off for a while and upgrade himself before coming to mainstream coaching again.
“Going to Great Olympics was not a plan thing, it came within a short time and I made the decision.
“The Olympics contract is a short term contract which will run till the end of the current season and I will not go with my back room staff,” said Kobby.
Before joining Great Olympics, the former Samartex manager spoke with Yaw Preko and Annor Walker whom have both worked at similar positions.
Despite having limited knowledge about the Olympics team, Kobby Mensah will be expected to quickly hit the ground running and start winning games to avoid relegation.
“I don’t know much about the Great Olympics players, I watched them once against Hearts of Oak and also few individual players so I can’t talk much about them for now,” he concluded.
