Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has defended the government’s ticket distribution system for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage matches, insisting that strict measures prevented any abuse of the allocation process.
Speaking on Sporty FM’s Sporty Breakfast, Adams said a rigorous approval system ensured that no tickets could be released without his authorization, eliminating the possibility of embezzlement.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation allocated 2,922 tickets for Ghana’s three group-stage matches through the country’s diplomatic missions in the United States and Canada. The electronic tickets were distributed to selected supporters, recognized fan groups, sponsors, stakeholders and members of the Ghanaian diaspora using FIFA’s mobile ticketing platform.
According to the ministry, 948 tickets were assigned for the Panama match, 1,000 for the England fixture and 974 for the Croatia encounter.
Adams’ remarks come amid public concerns over the distribution process, with demand for tickets far exceeding the available allocation. The ministry has confirmed that the ticket support programme covered only the group stage and will not extend to the knockout rounds.
