Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised Ghanaian football supporters for their crucial role in the Black Stars successful qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing fans as the true driving force behind the teams turnaround.Ghana endured a difficult start to the qualifying series but eventually recovered strongly to secure a place at the global tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The qualification marks Ghanas fifth appearance at the World Cup, reaffirming their status among Africas consistent representatives on footballs biggest stage.Speaking on Asempa FM, the Sports Minister acknowledged that the journey was far from smooth when the current administration assumed office, pointing to early struggles in both team performance and public confidence.However, he credited a renewed bond between the team and its supporters as a key factor in the Black Stars resurgence.Before Mahama came into office, there was a disconnect between the fans and the team, but suddenly things took a different turn, and we saw fans at the stadia, the Buem MP said.I thank the 12th man, the fans, for their support because without them, it would have been difficult, and since then, it has been a good story after another, he added.The Black Stars qualification campaign saw a significant improvement in results after a shaky start, eventually culminating in Ghana topping their group to book a spot at the global showpiece.Attention now shifts to preparations for the tournament, where Ghana will be aiming to improve on their historic quarter-final finish in 2010, their best-ever performance at the World Cup.At the 2026 finals, Ghana have been drawn in a challenging Group L, alongside football giants England and Croatia, as well as Panama.The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23, and wrapping up their group matches against Croatia on June 27.With national unity and fan support now being highlighted as key pillars of progress, the focus turns to whether Ghana can carry that momentum onto the world stage and deliver another memorable World Cup run.
