Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as they prepare for their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama on June 17.

In a social media post sighted by AmeyawDebrah.com, Asamoah Gyan described the national team, the Black Stars, as the pride of the nation and urged citizens both in Ghana and in the diaspora to stand firmly behind the squad throughout the tournament.

Congratulating the 26 players selected for the World Cup, the football star, said he believes in the squad and encouraged them to make the nation proud.

“The Black Stars are our brand. Our pride. Our only product,” he wrote.

The former striker also appealed to Ghanaians to put aside their differences and unite behind the team, noting that football remains one of the few things capable of bringing the nation together.

According to him, the World Cup offers Ghana another opportunity to showcase its brand to the rest of the world, making it important for everyone to stand behind the players.

Asamoah Gyan  further expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the Ghana Football Association led by Kurt Okraku, the media, supporters and all Ghanaians for their contributions towards the team’s journey to the tournament.

He ended his message with words of encouragement for the Black Stars, assuring them of the nation’s support regardless of the outcome.

“Win, lose, or draw, we’ll all be smiling together if we stand as one. Go make us proud, boys. Ghana is behind you!”

The Black Stars will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday, with many Ghanaians hoping for a positive start to the tournament.
