Accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of prioritizing electoral promises over economic recovery efforts, John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), admonished the government to redirect its attention to pressing financial challenges.

During a visit to the Chiefs and Elders of La-Bawuleshie and Mempeasem in the Ayawaso West Constituency, Mahama expressed dismay at the NPP’s campaign strategy, which he claimed focused more on soliciting votes than addressing Ghana’s economic hardships.

Mahama particularly criticized recent statements by the NPP’s running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who compared President Akufo-Addo’s achievements to those of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. According to Mahama, such comparisons demonstrate a disconnect from the country’s economic struggles.

“Their assertions reveal a lack of understanding of the current economic crisis facing Ghana,” Mahama asserted, stressing the stark contrast between the NPP’s promises and the reality. He emphasized that instead of making lofty promises ahead of elections, the government should take immediate steps to alleviate economic burdens.

With only five months remaining until the elections, Mahama stressed the urgency of implementing immediate economic measures. He criticized the NPP’s habit of postponing actions until after elections, urging them to prioritize economic reforms without any further delay.

In a stern warning, Mahama reminded that in 2016, the NPP made similar promises and delayed action. He cautioned against repeating such mistakes, urging a proactive stance on economic revitalization.

As of now, the NPP government has not yet responded to Mahama’s criticisms, leaving the debate one-sided.
