McDan Aviation, a private air charter service provider, has denied reports that it owes the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) $3 million, a debt said to have led to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport.

According to McDan Aviation, $2 million of the alleged debt is linked to a land purchase from GACL, which is currently the subject of a court dispute.

Speaking to Channel One News, McDan Group CEO Kweku Ampromfi clarified that part of the terminal charges has been paid and expressed optimism about resolving the issue so that the terminal can reopen soon.

“We do not owe $3 million at the terminal. A significant portion of the amount is tied to a piece of land near Action Chapel, which we purchased from GACL. However, a third party also acquired the same land through the Lands Commission, and it is now under litigation,” he explained.

Mr. Ampromfi added that it would not be practical to pay large sums of money for the land until the legal dispute is resolved.

The GACL recently shut down McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal over unpaid debts, which include land leases, rentals, and terminal charges that reportedly exceeded $3 million.

This is the second time the private jet terminal has been closed. In February 2022, McDan Aviation was barred from operating at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport due to operational breaches.

McDan Aviation began its private jet services on January 28, 2022, and remains hopeful for a resolution to resume operations soon.
