MTN Ghana has once again demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by distributing hampers to mothers and their newborns in hospitals nationwide.
This year, 600 hampers were distributed across 16 regions, targeting major healthcare facilities, including those in Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Oti.
At the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the company distributed 140 hampers containing essential items such as detergents, diapers, lotions, and creams.
These hampers are carefully curated to support mothers during their hospital stay and as they transition back home with their newborns.
A Gesture of Christmas Spirit
Speaking on behalf of MTN’s Chief Corporate Sustainability and Social Officer, Samuel Bartels, Senior Manager of Regulatory and Government Affairs , highlighted the significance of the donation.
He explained that the initiative is part of MTN’s efforts to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and share the spirit of Christmas with mothers and their newborns.
“Since 2011, MTN has distributed over 3,500 hampers as part of this annual initiative. It is a way to bring joy and mark the birth of children while showcasing the importance of sharing during the festive season,” Bartels noted.
He further emphasized that the program aligns with MTN’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus areas, including health, economic empowerment, and education.
Bartels also encouraged individuals and organizations to embrace the spirit of giving during the festive season. He announced MTN’s upcoming blood donation drive in February, inviting the public to participate and contribute to saving lives.
Acknowledging Healthcare Workers
MTN Ghana, through its Foundation, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to medical staff nationwide, with a special acknowledgment of those serving in maternity wards.
He praised the unwavering commitment of healthcare workers in ensuring the safety and well-being of mothers and their newborns, even during the festive period when many are separated from their families.
“The hard work and sacrifices of healthcare workers are invaluable, especially during the Christmas season. MTN’s initiative seeks to complement their efforts and recognize their dedication to saving lives,” Bartels stated.
Gratitude from Korle Bu
Mrs. Victoria Djamoe, Senior Midwifery Officer at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed her appreciation for the gesture.
“We are pleased to have the MTN Foundation with us. Their support has brought joy to mothers who might not have been able to afford some of these essential items.
The 140 hampers, filled with baby supplies like diapers and wipes, will go a long way in helping these families. We hope to see them return next year, perhaps in an even bigger way,” Mrs. Djamoe said.
Inspiring Generosity
MTN Ghana’s initiative underscores the true spirit of Christmas by promoting sharing, caring, and celebrating life. The company encourages individuals and organizations to identify and act on opportunities to support those in need, ensuring that the season’s goodwill touches as many lives as possible.
The mothers who received the hampers expressed deep gratitude, with many visibly moved by the thoughtful gesture. The initiative not only provided essential supplies but also brought joy and warmth to families during the holiday season.
Sustained Impact
As MTN Ghana continues to drive positive change through initiatives like the Christmas hamper distribution, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to enriching communities and fostering a spirit of generosity across the nation.
