Investigation into the alleged assault by former German international Jerome Boateng has been dropped by the Munich Public Prosecutors office. The former Bayern Munich centre-back had been under investigation since late 2019 following allegations of assault against his ex-girlfriend, Kasia Lenhardt. The case appeared not to be going anywhere, but in 2021, it was reopened after Lenhardts tragic suicide. An autopsy conducted raised suspicions about severe injuries, but no concrete evidence was found to support the claims. The case has now been closed after a key witness failed to appear for questioning and later disappeared. In closing the case and ending all investigations, the prosecution cited the legal principle in dubio pro reo [when in doubt, for the defendant]. The decision means all charges, including assault, coercion, and defamation, against Jerome Boateng have been dismissed.Taking to his Instagram to react to the decision, Jerome Boateng said he can now look into the future with positivity. The Munich public prosecutor’s office has finally dropped the case against me after five years. All my statements were correct, and the allegations against me were false.Thank you to everyone who stood by my side and supported me despite the heavy prejudice. That means so much to me. Now my family and I can finally look to the future with positivity. Never give up, Jerome Boateng said.
