The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has spoken out against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s selection of recipients for the recent National State Awards. Asiedu Nketiah expressed his concerns during the 43rd-anniversary celebration of the 31st December Revolution, questioning the credibility of the awards.

The National Chairman of NDC, has criticized the 2024 National Honours and Awards ceremony held on Monday. Asiedu Nketia stated that state awards should be reserved for individuals of distinction who have fought for a good cause.

He expressed concerns that the current process lacks transparency and accountability, suggesting that a proper committee backed by law should be established to determine future winners of state awards. This, he believes, would prevent the selection process from being influenced by personal interests or biases, such as those of President Akuffo Addo.

Asiedu Nketia’s comments highlight the need for a more rigorous and merit-based selection process for national honours and awards.
