NDC’s Beatrice Annan Criticizes NPP for Alleged Partisan Appointments in Judiciary

Beatrice Annan, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, has publicly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly appointing party loyalists, including some of its foot soldiers, to judicial positions, which she claims undermines the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary.

In a recent panel discussion, Annan accused the NPP of prioritizing partisan interests over merit, particularly in judicial appointments. She singled out Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu, who was appointed as a Justice of the High Court, suggesting that his affiliation with the NPP, rather than his qualifications, was the reason for his appointment.

“This is a low point for our judiciary,” Annan remarked, asserting that the ruling party’s actions signal a disregard for judicial impartiality. She went on to emphasize that judicial power should not be used for political gains. “Judicial power is not political power to be wielded for the benefit of your party. It is not a tool to reward girlfriends, side chics, or party loyalists,” Annan stated.

According to Annan, the judiciary’s role is to act objectively, representing the people’s interests, and not to serve the political agendas of those in power. She warned the NPP that the NDC would not tolerate such practices in the future, vowing to safeguard the integrity of the judicial system.

“The NDC will no longer allow the judiciary to be used as a tool for bullying or advancing partisan agendas,” Annan firmly declared. Her comments reflect ongoing tensions between the NPP and NDC, particularly concerning concerns over the fairness and impartiality of government institutions.
