Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Akuapem Poloo, has opened up about the role negativity and controversy play in achieving fame within the entertainment industry.

Speaking during a conversation on Girls Can Talk Show on Adom TV, where the topic “Fame and Respect” was discussed, she noted that many talented individuals often go unnoticed because they avoid controversy.

According to her, the entertainment space tends to reward visibility over merit. She explained that some celebrities who consistently do the right things and stay away from negativity struggle to gain recognition.

“There are some celebrities who are very talented and are doing things the right way without any negativity around them, but no one is recognizing them. There are some good musicians who make good music, but because there is no controversy around them, no one recognizes them,” she said.

Akuapem Poloo emphasized that negativity can be a powerful tool when used strategically, admitting that it contributed to her own rise to fame. However, she acknowledged that she did not manage it well at certain points in her career.

“Negativity sells, but it depends on how you use it. Negativity helped me, but I didn’t make good use of some of it, and that is why it broke me,” she stated.

She further highlighted how controversies often fuel attention in both local and international entertainment industries. Drawing comparisons, she referenced the long-standing rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, as well as the public tensions between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. She suggested that such rivalries often create buzz, even if the individuals involved may not have personal animosity in real life.

On the subject of respect, the social media personality noted that it now holds significant value in her life. She admitted that she may have lost some level of respect earlier in her career but believes she has since regained it through her growth and the circles she now moves in.

The thespian also mentioned that she has received recognition from influential individuals, citing her recent Hajj trip, which she says was supported by high-profile figures, including the King of Saudi Arabia.

Despite her appreciation for respect, Akuapem Poloo made it clear that she would still choose fame if given the option between the two. She explained that respect ultimately depends on others and cannot always be controlled.

“You could be doing everything right, but if someone decides not to respect you, there is nothing you can do about it,” she added.

Her comments have sparked ongoing conversations about the balance between controversy, recognition, and personal growth within the entertainment industry.
