The Oti Regional Minister, Jacob Makubu has urged the residents of Nkwanta South to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to help bring an end to the incidents happening in Nkwanta South.
The incidents claimed the lives of 6 people and people also fled for their lives.
As a result of this, the Ministry of Interior imposed a curfew on Nkwanta South township in the Oti Region following a shooting incident that claimed six lives and left many others injured and hospitalized.
According to a statement released by the ministry, the curfew took effect on Tuesday, November 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in the Nkwanta South Municipality.
As part of the curfew, the ministry has also placed a ban on carrying arms and ammunition, as well as other offensive weapons, within the catchment area, warning anyone found in violation would be arrested and prosecuted.
Yesterday, another incident happened again in Nkwanta South, where a farmer was shot dead and four other people were severely injured by unknown gunmen.
As a result of this, the Oti Regional Minister, Jacob Makubu, in an interview on the GTV breakfast show today, addressed the issue of curfew in Nkwanta.
Based on the information reaching out to the Oti Regional Minister, there has been some form of individual shooting where people are always attacked while on their farms or on their way to the farms.
According to Jacob Makubu, there was a gunshot in a community, and when the police mounted their search, they found a body that was shot dead and sent to the mortuary. Later in the afternoon, he had another piece of information from the police commander that four people were also attacked on their way home after going to load Gari. Two (2) of them are in critical condition and have been sent to the Nkwanta Municipal Government Hospital for treatment.
Furthermore, he assured the residents that the government is working in collaboration with the relevant securities agencies to tackle the root causes of the unrest and urged those from the Oti region to also support by engaging the people, which will make headway.
In addition, Jacob Makubu urged the residents to remain calm, cooperate with the security forces, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to help bring an end to the incidents happening in Nkwanta.
