The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled plans to enhance Ghana’s public infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on aviation.

During the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Bawumia outlined his vision to initiate the construction of the long-awaited Cape Coast Airport and a new airport in the Upper East Region ahead of the December 2024 elections.

He stated that the Cape Coast Airport project is ready to move forward, thanks to secured funding from a US$2 billion facility provided by the South Korean government. He emphasized that this airport will significantly boost tourism and trade in the Central Region by improving connectivity and reducing travel times for both domestic and international visitors.

“The Cape Coast Airport has been a priority for us, and with the funding in place from the Korean facility, we are ready to break ground and begin construction,” Bawumia stated, noting the airport’s potential to further elevate Cape Coast as a key tourist destination, rich in historical and cultural heritage.

In addition to the Cape Coast Airport, Bawumia announced plans to collaborate with the private sector to develop an airport in the Upper East Region. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to unlock economic opportunities in northern Ghana, enhance regional integration, and improve transportation access.

“We want to ensure that every region of Ghana has access to world-class infrastructure. The Upper East Airport will play a pivotal role in boosting trade, tourism, and investment in the northern sector of the country,” Bawumia asserted.

He assured that both airports would be constructed to the highest standards of quality and efficiency and designed to meet the future demands of air travel in Ghana.
