The Pupils of Obusumasua Presby Primary School in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have made a passionate appeal to government to come to their aid by helping to renovate their dilapidated school building and stock it with desks.

They also appealed to the government to provide them with reading books and computers thereby establishing a library in the school for them. The pupils made the appeal when a non-governmental organization based in the United States of America which is into provision of book bags to schools in deprived areas, Keziah Addoquaye Foundation donated book bags to all the pupils in the school.

The Obusumasua Presby Primary School was established as a community school in the year 1961 through the able leadership of the late Dademantse of Obusumasua, George Nartey Ayernor. He offered a parcel of land for free for the building of the school. In the year 1964, the school progressed to Primary Four which made the late Dademantse Ayernor of Obusumasua, late Dademantse of Akorwu-Bana, Oklu Kwadjo together with opinion leaders from adjoining communities such as Asiafo, Amanfrom met and decided to form the school at a central point where it is currently situated.

The school which began with less than 15 pupils can now boast of over one hundred and 50 pupils, however, the school has been confronted with numerous challenges such as infrastructure deficit, lack of sanitary facilities, desks, reading books, teachers’ tables and chairs among others. It is a result that the US-based Keziah Addoquaye Foundation decided to extend their support to the school by providing the pupils with book bags.

In an interview with GBC Sunrise FM, the founder of the Foundation, Lilly Ofosu Addoquaye noted that the aim of the foundation was a concept by her late daughter, Keziah Addoquaye who died two years ago at the age of 14 and they decide to do this donation every year in honour of her.

Mrs. Lilly Ofosu Addoquaye also assured the school that the foundation will lead the charge in organizing laptops, tablets, and computers both at home and abroad for the school.

The Headteacher of Obusumasua Presby Primary School and Akorwu-Bana MA JHS, Michael Kofi Numadzi, in receipt of the book bags showed his appreciation to Keziah Foundation for the kind gesture adding that the donation will serve as motivation for the pupils. Mr. Kofi Numadzi used the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders and other benevolent organizations to come to their aid.

The Girls Prefect of the School, Gloria Tamatey on behalf of the school pupils appreciated the gesture of Keziah Addoquaye Foundation and appealed to the government, stakeholders and other benevolent organizations to provide them with reading books, school desks, and also help build or renovate the school building.
