OFFICIAL: James Gyakye Quayson Wins Assin North By-Election | Politics

James Gyakye Quayson has won the Assin North constituency by-election according to official results from the Electoral Commission (EC), Tuesday evening.

He garnered 17,245 of the total valid votes cast representing 57.56% beating his close contender, Charles Opoku who had 12,630 votes representing 42.15 percent.

Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) polled only 87 votes or 0.29%.

The EC declaring the results said voter turnout was 74.23%; the total valid votes were 29962, total rejected ballots were 456 and the total votes cast was 30418.

In the 2020 Parliamentary election in Assin North, Gyakye Quayson won with 17,498 votes as against the then NPP candidate Abena Durowaa Mensah who had 14,193 votes.

It didn’t go well – NPP Director of IT

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of IT, Eric Ntori speaking at the collation centre to Joy News said “it didn’t go well” for the party.

“…It didn’t go well for us but it doesn’t matter that we lost it all…we’ll go back to the drawing board; prepare again and come back in 2024 and make sure we can snatch the seat again”.

SC of Assin North has spoken

The National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Opare Addo has hailed the constituents of Assin North for proving that “they still prefer Gyakye Quayson”

“We have comfortably won the election. The Supreme Court of Assin North has spoken to the Supreme Court of Ghana that they still prefer Gyakye Quayson as their Member of Parliament,” he told Joy News.
