Ignatius Osei-Fosu has revealed that he was drawn to the challenge of ensuring King Faisal’s survival in the Ghana Premier League this season.
Osei-Fosu was appointed just hours before the local derby against Asante Kotoko, which ended in a goalless draw despite being down to 10 men from the 76th minute.
This result motivated King Faisal to cause a major upset in the FA Cup against Aduana Stars, winning on penalties in the quarter-finals and now just two wins away from their first major trophy.
Despite King Faisal’s difficult situation, Osei-Fosu is optimistic, having taken up a similar challenge before. “I think it has been difficult for King Faisal in the last three seasons considering their pedigree. But I believe that you have to take big challenges to be who you are and I always love challenges,” he said in an interview with 3Sports.
“I first took up a challenge in Techiman where no team [from Techiman] had survived a full season in the Premier League. After I left, the team was relegated. I came to Dreams and saved them from relegation as well. So, I feel it’s a big challenge here at King Faisal but from the experience I’ve had from Techiman and Dreams, I think we can manoeuvre ourselves through it.”
Osei-Fosu holds a CAF License A badge and has worked with several clubs in Ghana, including Liberty Professionals, Eleven Wonders, Dreams FC, and Medeama.
King Faisal are currently four points clear of the relegation zone, with their main task being to stay in the top flight. The recent results have given the club and their fans new hope for the future under Osei-Fosu’s leadership.
