People of Alajo now have an Astroturf | GBC Ghana Online – The Nation’s Broadcaster

Residents of Alajo and its environs have become one of the beneficiaries of the numerous Astroturfs being constructed by the government across the country. The project which was undertaken by the Coastal Development Authority will enable the people in the Community to pursue their passion in sports, especially football.

President Akufo-Addo, who officially inaugurated the Astroturf at a short ceremony in Accra, entreated members of the Community to put the facility to good use and unearth talents in the Community.

For the past six years, the government has committed resources to support sports development, especially the construction of Astroturfs across the country. This is to help scout footballers and other athletes.

The Alajo Astro-Turf brings the total to 125 Astro-Turfs being built across Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo said the construction of the facility will enhance communities participation in sports to unearth more talents, stressing that the development of sports infrastructure is key as football is Ghana’s passion. He was optimistic that the Astroturf will bring out more legends.

President Akufo-Addo also spoke of other ongoing projects in the Community.

The Minister of Sports, Mustapha Yussif, outlined ongoing projects to improve Sports infrastructure development.

The Coastal Development Authority (CoDA) constructed the Alajo Astro-Turf.

The Chief Executive of the Authority, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, indicated that ten other Astroturfs will be constructed by the authority. He mentioned the establishment of a committee to manage the Astroturf.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, and Alajo Mantse Nii Armah Ajoor were among the key dignitaries who graced the occasion.

Nii Armah Ajoor used the occasion to appeal to the President to help give a facelift to the Alajo Cluster of Schools.

The audience were treated to a match between the former Black Stars eleven versus Alajo eleven on the new Astro-Turf.
