Performance of 34 Ghanaian Players in England as Daniel Agyei hits brace, Ablade grabs hat-trick, Wollacott benched again plus Ayew misses penalty & more

Ghanaian players returned to action during the weekend for their clubs in England with former Burnley forward Daniel Agyei registering a brace while Terry Ablade scored a hat-trick for Fulham’s U21 side.

Meanwhile, Ghana captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 away loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Below is a wrap of how the players performed for their clubs during the weekend.

Black Stars attacker Antoine Semenyo cameoed for Bournemouth as he came off the bench in the 88th minute in their 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday’s early kick-off.

Defender Tariq Lamptey was injured and missed Brighton’s 2-2 drawn game at Leeds United.

Chelsea resisted a strong Leicester City side to beat them 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. Daniel Amartey started in a 3-back system for the Foxes but he was substituted in the 66th minute.

Thomas Partey was in action for 90 minutes for Arsenal in their 3-0 away win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Edward Nketiah missed the game through injury.

Meanwhile, Salisu Mohammed was benched when Southampton held Manchester United to a 0-0 drawn game on Sunday. However, Kamaldeen Sulemana lasted 76 minutes for the Saints.

Ghana captain Andre Ayew came off the bench in the 46th minute for Nottingham Forest and missed a crucial penalty in their 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Ayew missed his kick at the 96th-minute mark.

Crystal Palace are still without a win in 2023 as they lost their home game against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles suffered a 1-0 home defeat with Jordan Ayew and Jeffrey Schlupp starting the game for Patrick Vieira’s side. Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game for the Citizens.

In the Championship, forward Tariqe Akwesi Fosu was booked in the 87th minute and played the entire game for Rotherham who were beaten 2-0 by Birmingham City.

Elsewhere Benjamin Tetteh suffered an injury and was replaced in the 22nd minute as Hull City drew 1-1 with Coventry.

Albert Adomah came off the bench to play for Queens Park Rangers when they won 1-0 against visiting Watford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Reading suffered a 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Millwall. Ghana defender Andy Yiadom captained the Royals into the came but he was subbed off at half-time. Baba Rahman remains injured and missed the fixture.

West Brom squeezed a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield. English-born Ghanaian Brandon Thomas-Asante missed the game for West Brom due to an injury.

Charlton Athletic were held to a 1-1 home draw by visiting Accrington Stanley. Crystal Palace loanee Jesuran Rak-Sakyi lasted 71 minutes for the Addicks while goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott was unused.

In League, English-born defender Brendan Wiredu played at the heart of defence for Fleetwood when they shared the spoils with Port Vale in a 1-1 drawn game. Meanwhile, Derek Agyakwa was unused by the visitors.

Liverpool loanee Jarell Quansah was a pillar in defence for Bristol Rovers who won 3-1 at Forest Green.

18-year-old forward Gatlin O’Donkor started the game for Oxford United in their 3-2 home loss to Derby County.

Kwame Poku lasted the entire duration of the game for Peterborough when Cheltenham Town beat them 3-0.

In the League Two, former Burnley forward Daniel Agyei scored a brace for Crewe Alexandra in their 4-3 home win over Salford.

Son of former Medeama SC coach Seth Ablade, Terry Ablade, scored a hat-trick for Fulham’s U21 side in their 6-1 battering of Stoke City U21 in the Premier League Cup on Saturday.

Defender Jacob Mensah warmed the bench for Torquay when they lost 2-1 to visiting Wealdstone in the National League.

Both Zico Asare and Emile Acquah played for Maidenhead when they lost 2-0 at Woking.

In the U18 Premier League, English-born Tino Quamina came off the bench to play for Arsenal U18 when they lost 4-3 at Crystal Palace U18.

Ghanaian trio of Dillon Addai, Kirsten Otchere, and Bobby Amartey played for Leicester City U18 in their 2-0 away win over Southampton U18.

Ato Ampah was named on the Chelsea U18 bench in their 3-2 home loss to Brighton U18. Yussif Owusu was also on the bench for Brighton.
