Personnel at the Kwatire-Odomase police barrier in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region have appreciated the construction of a police post to strengthen day and night operations at the barrier.
A physically challenged agro-processor and philanthropist, Mr Kofi Vinyo is putting up the police post to improve security on the
stretch.
The facility, estimated at the cost of GH¢60,000 has separate washrooms for male and female personnel, and an office with furniture, printer and a computer.
During an inspection visit, the personnel told the media the police post would relieve them of inconveniences and deepen their operations.
The tiling and roofing works had been completed and the contractors
were putting finishing touches to the facility which would also be connected to electricity.
Police Inspector Theophilus Ofori said the police required such kind gestures to further strengthen the police-civilian relationship in
fighting crime.
He, therefore, called for more support from the public and commended the philanthropist for helping to alleviate their plight of the
police.
Corporal Bernice Asiedu, an officer, also expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying it was always inconvenient for the female personnel to visit the nature call, and expressed the hope that the facility would be completed for use.
Another female officer, Lance Corporal Comfort Oppong expressed worry officers on duty had nowhere to be sheltered during the rainy seasons, and commended the philanthropist for the assistance.
Mr Vinyo, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Kofi Vinyo and Companies, dealers and exporters of agro processing items, assured the facility would be completed and handed over to the police for use by mid-February this year.
Asked about his intention to put up the facility, he said modern policing remained shared and collective responsibility, and underlined the need for everybody to support the police to fight crime.
Mr Vinyo noted that crime was now sophisticated and that the police needed modern gadgets, and a sound environment to operate and clamp down on miscreants in society.
“This is why we intend to furnish the facility with at least a computer, an air conditioner and a refrigerator to make the personnel
more comfortable on their duty post”, Mr Vinyo stated.
