Ghanaian actor and businessman, Mawuli Gavor, has announced a collaboration with Nigerian conglomerate Play Network Africa to launch a US$1million investment for the domestic film and entertainment industry.

The collaboration, already in effect, has seen the construction and opening of two state-of-the-art establishments – Play Night Club and Lupita Rooftop Lounge/Restaurant in Osu, Accra. Both facilities boast architectural design rivalling any that has ever been seen in the Ghanaian landscape. The duo now seek to further their partnership with the commencement of a fund worth a million dollars, dedicated specifically for the film and entertainment industry.

According to Gavor, there remains a lot of untapped opportunities within the entertainment industry, which when harnessed will not only boost the country’s economy by creating job opportunities but also provide avenues for the industry to scale-up in technical knowledge as well as infrastructure.

“Having lived in Nigeria for over five years, the main lesson learnt was the efficacy of collaboration. My partnership with Play Network Africa aims to attract investments and support for the Ghanaian entertainment space. Ultimately, the best/quickest way to succeed is by helping others to succeed. That being said, true change is almost impossible without industry-wide collaboration, cooperation and consensus; as such, we’ll be looking to collaborate with more partners in Ghana and beyond,” he added.

Play Network Africa, a conglomerate that successfully blends business, entertainment, leisure and lifestyle into one medium, is currently one of the most successful units in Nigeria. It focuses on connecting entrepreneurs with other interested investors.

The network has amassed thousands of highly successful investors, entrepreneurs, career professionals, celebrities and luxury-lifestyle influencers across Africa in their portfolio. Despite being in existence for less than five years, the network currently runs arguably the most successful studio in Nigeria responsible for some of the biggest Nollywood productions; including Living in Bondagethe Remake, Rattlesnake and the global Netflix sensation Glamour Girls.

Lifestyle connoisseur and Chief Executive Officer of Play Network Africa, Charles Okpaleke – popularly known as Charles of Play, says he is optimistic that this collaboration will cement the very strong relationship that exists between Ghana and Nigeria. “We have had very exciting partnerships with many artists from Ghana and Nigeria, but this current one is a step higher whereby we are investing not just into one-off events but also infrastructure that will boost the entertainment industry. Ghana has incredible potential that is already being harnessed. We simply aim to do our part to push this further as we make Ghana our second home.

The partnership is expected to foster better relationships between Ghana and Nigeria through increased collaborations in the film and entertainment space. The investment will also include film productions which will be shot between Ghana, Nigeria and other African locations.
