The Western North regional NDC secretary, Mr. George Ofori Danquah, and party executives held a press conference at Sefwi Wiawso to voice their concerns about brewing tensions between the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). NDC officials said the media encounter became necessary after the police failed to address several complaints they had lodged.
Mr. George Ofori Danquah alleged that some NPP thugs have a penchant for attacking the NDC parliamentary candidates, singling out the recent incident in the Aowin Constituency. In this incident, the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Hon Oscar Ofori Larbi, was attacked after a misunderstanding erupted between him and Hon Abanga Yakubu Fusani, the NPP parliamentary candidate, while the police looked on.
He mentioned that the police failed to act when some NPP hoodlums assaulted the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sefwi Wiawso, Afful Kofi Benteh.
Mr. George Ofori Danquah averred that during the recent voters transfer some NPP bandits beat the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency Organizer, Mr. Adu Gyamfi Lord, to a pulp, but the police commander did nothing.
He also mentioned that some NPP gangsters physically attacked the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency Youth Organizer of the NDC, Mr. Israel Djakpata, yet the police showed no concern.
Mr. Ofori Danquah hinted that the NDC filed a petition seeking the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to bring the matter under control.
