President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana has strongly condemned the attempted assassination of former United States President Donald Trump, denouncing politically motivated violence as antithetical to democratic principles and global peace.
The incident occurred during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, where shots fired caused panic among attendees and prompted a swift response from Secret Service agents.
In a formal statement, President Akufo-Addo expressed Ghana’s solidarity with the United States and conveyed heartfelt wishes for Trump’s swift recovery and the well-being of the American people.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump,” President Akufo-Addo declared. “Such acts of politically motivated violence have no place in our world and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear.”
Trump, who sustained injuries including a gunshot wound to the ear, recounted the harrowing experience of hearing a bullet and described the ensuing chaos at the rally. The perpetrator, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was fatally shot by Secret Service agents. Tragically, one spectator lost their life, and two others sustained critical injuries during the incident.
The condemnation from President Akufo-Addo underscores the global repercussions of the assassination attempt, emphasizing the imperative of safeguarding democratic norms and peaceful discourse in political environments worldwide.
