Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says a final decision on goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s availability for Ghana’s crucial World Cup clash against England will be made after a late fitness assessment on Monday.
Ati-Zigi suffered an injury during Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama in their Group L opener and was replaced at half-time by Benjamin Asare. The goalkeeper has been undergoing treatment as he works towards recovering in time for Tuesday’s encounter.
Providing an update at a pre-match press conference, Queiroz revealed that the player has shown signs of improvement but remains under medical observation.
“He is still receiving treatment. Today was much better. However, the decision will be made tomorrow after the final medical assessment,” the Portuguese coach said.
Ati-Zigi has resumed light individual training, with goalkeeping coach Daniel Gaspar optimistic about his progress. However, Ghana’s medical team will only clear him if he is deemed fully fit.
Should Ati-Zigi fail to recover in time, Asare is expected to make his first World Cup start after an impressive cameo against Panama.
