Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Randy Abbey has announced that he will not be participating in this year’s GFA presidential elections, expressing a lack of interest in the position.
Abbey, who previously ran for the vice presidential position in the 2019 elections, had been speculated to take a step forward and contend for the top position when nominations open later this year, with the elections likely to be held in October.
However, it seems that Abbey’s focus lies in maintaining his role as an Executive Council member rather than pursuing the presidency. In an interview with Asempa FM, he stated, “I’m not interested in contesting for the GFA presidential seat; it is out of the equation.”
During the same interview, Abbey expressed his concerns about the negative portrayal of Ghana in the media, emphasizing that it hinders the progress of the country. He urged the media to shift their attention towards highlighting positive aspects. “Negative reportage by the media is one problem affecting Ghana football,” he added.
This year has been particularly rewarding for Abbey, as his club, Hearts of Lions, successfully secured a return to the Ghana Premier League after an eight-year absence. He has pledged to invest in the club to ensure their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
